BISHKEK, June 1, 2011 (TCA) -- The Kyrgyz Energy Ministry is in talks
with China's Sinohydro Corporation concerning construction of the
cascade of hydropower plants on the Suusamyr river, Energy Minister
Askarbek Shadiev said at the meeting on development of energy sector
today. The Energy Minister said the project is under discussion.
Sinohydro Corporation President is expected to arrive in Kyrgyzstan in
the nearest time to discuss this project with the country's leadership.
Construction of these hydropower plants will take at least 5 years. The
overall capacity will be 1,305 MW. The plants will produce 3.3 billion
kWh of power, which will be 10% of the country's energy capacities.

construction of Suusamyr-Kokemeren cascade of hydropower plants

The Electric Stations JSC and China's Sinohydro today signed the
protocol-intention on cooperation in construction of Suusamyr-Kokomeren
cascade of hydropower plants.
First Vice Prime Minister Omurbek Babanov pledged the government support
to the project.
He said Synohydro is among top five international power companies. "Your
capacity used in China is useful for us. Power sector is the top
priority task for Kyrgyzstan. We welcome your decision to invest into
hydropower plants in Kyrgyzstan," he said.
Representatives of Sinohydro said the feasibility study will be
completed by the end of 2011, the construction documents will be ready
by the first quarter of 2012.
Sinohydro plans to begin construction at the end of 2012 or at the
beginning of 2013. Construction will last for 5 years. Sinohydro is
expected to invest $2 billion.
